Commonwealth War Graves - Lighting their Legacy Service
On Wednesday, Year 5 attended the Commonwealth War Grave Commission's 80th anniversary of D Day service. The children were escorte don a tour of the cemetery where Will informed them about the differing markings on the grave and shared stories about some of the people who were buried there. They then took part in the service attended by members of the public, active and retired members of the military and the Lord Mayor. They took part in the passing of the torch ceremony where memories and knowledge were symbolically passed down to the younger generation. The tributes the children wrote will now be taken over to Bayeux in France where they will form part of the international service of Remembrance.
